INTRODUCTION
i. What
would be the vision, mission, core purpose and core values of your future
organization?
The vision of this organization is to create a global café
enterprise. It has been a long time vision of us to be able to share our
products not only to the entire country, but to every single people from all
over the world. This is directly linked to our mission, which is to create an
environment where absolute guest satisfaction is our highest priority. We in
Erinnern café believe that quality service is the root of our operation, to
bring only the best to our customers and to remain in our customers’ heart and
mind, so that they will continue on their lives with that taste of happiness.
To turn this mission and vision to reality, we hold the core
purpose of bringing happiness and tranquillity to each and every customer. We
would create an environment that would lead to a peace of mind and fondly
remembered by our customers, the same way they would reminisce on their
beautiful past memories.
We in Erinnern cafe maintain a basic of five core values which we
maintain in everything we do and think, to bring the very best to our
customers. We value excellence more than anything, as we strive to be the best
in both operational and organizational excellence. We aim to
provide and give more than what is expected from us and we strive to be a
better competitor to our industrial rivals.
We in Erinnern value quality. We always ensure that we provide
products that are affordable, value for money, memorable and hassle free to
ensure exceptional customer satisfaction. Providing quality products and
services to customers at all times remains as our utmost priority in our
operations.
We are 100% committed in
fulfilling customer drive. We provide care to exceed our customer’s
expectations through exceptional customer
service through, quality products, flexible scheduling and efficient services
resulting in value to the customer and company.
We
demonstrate our corporate social responsibility to the community. We commit
ourselves to pursue a just world for all people through social work. We accept our responsibility for the environment, and work to
enhance the quality of life in the communities where we live and work. We
recognize that humility and reflection are integral to this process.
Operating for seven days a
week, we stand proud of our service where we make people and our communities
better through the power that resides in our ability to serve. We believe in
gaining our customers’ trust in our reliability as we attempt to always be
available to our customers when they need us.
ii. Describe
what would be the product or services that you are going to offer.
One of the services that
Erinnern cafe offers is a normal cafe that opens up seven days a week. Our menu
consists of a wide range of coffee mix, cakes and confections that we serve on
a daily basis in our cafes. Erinnern’s cafe opening hours starts as early as
seven in the morning and closes at eight in the evening. We aim to be there for
our customers whenever they need us and become their most reliable source for
tea and coffee.
Other
than that we also provide reservations upon request, to hold birthday parties
or after-wedding celebration in our café. For
customers who want to enjoy our products in their own comfortable space, we
also offer deliveries to the locations of choice. We also
receive cupcake or confectionary orders for large events such as weddings which
can be ordered directly from our cafes or through our official website.
One of our real differences
from other cafes is that we offer music and baking classes twice a week and those who attend our classes get a chance to be employed if they show promising aspects. The
classes are entirely free for anyone and it is up to them if they would like to contribute back to our cafe. Through this service, we would like to create a sharing
community and a strong bond with our customers.
A customized order can also
be done in our cafes where the customers can come up with their own recipes and
leave it to us to create it for them. With this service, customer can try out
their combinations off the menu and be able to pursue creativity at its
best. Before the creation of the product, customers would be informed on how
much it will cost and is required to provide a deposit of 20% in order to keep
the company’s resource cost in the best interests.
One other service that
customers can request for is to hire our any of our baristas for an on-site a
la carte service. For those who would love to enjoy our warm tea and coffee at
a post-event party, they would be able to do so by reserving our staffs to brew
it for them at the location of choice.
iii. Using
diagram, describe what would be your organisation structure?
B. CULTURE
iv. As
a founder, explain in details the organisational cultures that you want to
implement and why it is important.
Erinnern strives to promote
the importance of special skills and cultivating appreciation in arts and
music. Music and baking classes are hands-on so that trainees would be able to practice more on music
expression rather than the theoretical knowledge. Creativity is our utmost
priority, as we allow our trainees to freely choose on how they would like to
express a certain musical piece.
In order to build a
connection with our customers, we implement a transparent, see-through
kitchen which means our employees and customers can watch the process of the
products being made. Customers are more than welcome to have conversations with
our chefs, either for a friendly chat or even some kitchen
tips. Classical music is played as the ambience for the cafe and trainees are
encouraged to perform a classical piece on stage every Friday evening.
In Erinnern, open
communication is also a culture that we implement in the workplace and in our
organization. Managers of Erinnern will be involved in activities with trainees and students in the organization to
encourage friendliness within employees despite different hierarchy levels.
Rather than letting the higher authorities make all the decisions, we encourage
the employees to have their say, as this will make us able
to understand their problem resulting to better evaluation and decisions.
We would conduct a meeting
twice a week, which would involve all the employees and in the cafe where no
one would be left out no matter what position they are in the organization. We
build authority and power upon respect and not based on any sort of coercive
power. To support a flat organization structure, we implement a workplace where
there would be no offices but rather, meetings would be done in the cafe
itself, growing the love and fondness for the cafe itself into our employees
with it being the place for everything they do.
To ensure that our employees
are always on the top of their game, employees will be advised to take regular
breaks and be provided with free cupcake every week. Shifts would be managed in detail, and be very flexible in work times and day-offs. We operate in a family-first concept, where we
encourage employees to enjoy a work-home balance in everything they do. In
terms of break time relaxation, employees can enjoy a peaceful indoor garden
built inside the building for them to walk around or have a rest on one of the
benches available.
Here in Erinnern, we also
believe in giving back what we have received and we prioritise social
interaction exceeding our social obligations. Every month, our employees will
visit a local orphanage or old folks home to contribute and play our part in
improving the quality of life for the unfortunate and worn. We believe in
giving back to the community and celebrating with people despite the difficult
circumstances in their lives.
v. What
will be the effects of your organizational culture on your organisation’s
workforce?
The effects of this
organizational culture to our organization’s workforce is the fact that we
would be able to obtain a great amount of diversity in our employees, as we
open the skill classes for the public. This also provides us
with a workforce that has passion and love for everything they do, they have
chosen
it for themselves rather than being forced to do. Working out together in study environment would
bring a trust relationship which would then lead to a
healthy work environment where everyone can work with each other comfortably.
By
taking every employee’s thoughts and opinions in consideration, we would be
able to generate a work environment that supports a constant flow of ideas and
improvements. Looking from a lot of perspectives, employees will have a broad
thought process which would allow them to adapt to changes in a dynamic
environment more effectively. When none of their thoughts are taken lightly,
they would
own a sense of dignity and charisma which would affect
their job performance in terms of customer interaction.
With flextime
implementation, the stress-free environment would lead to an increase in
productivity of employees. Employees are able to dedicate themselves to work
with the assurance that they would be able to take time-off if an emergency
happened to their families and they people they love. Without worries in their
mind, they would be able to work more efficiently and effectively.
Erinnern cafe also has an
environment of a comfortable workplace such as the ambience of classical music,
placing of sofas and an indoor garden which will lead to enhancement of work
attitude among employees. The setting of the cafe will help employees feel less
burdened during shifts leading them to work in their best condition both physically and mentally.
Our practice of social
responsiveness on the other hand would create organizational members who take
importance of continuously giving back to the community hence building
humility, character and reputation in the organization. Rather than profit, we
bring out the importance of receiving emotions such as
happiness, gratitude and joy which gives a sense of fulfilment. This promotes emotional
growth to each member of the organization, making them more capable in handling
conflicts and managing their emotions.
C. CHALLENGE
vi. Describe
the steps your organisation will take in going global.
The first step that we
would take in going global would be to make sure that the brand itself is
well-known enough to bring in interest from the global market. To ensure this,
we have to engage in collaborations and joint ventures with other companies to
spread awareness about our brands. Doing events and promotions will
continuously spread information on our products and services, while social
media can be utilised to reach further into the global marketplace.
Financial
stability need to be properly addressed to so that we have enough resources to
go around when we begin our business to avoid much risk. It is also crucial to figure out whether we would be able to
obtain the same resources in the country of choice and whether it is reliable
enough to support the cafe’s operations and products. A country that has a
similar marketplace condition to our original starting one may ease the process
of globalization as we are familiar with the process of managing resources and
makes it easier to adapt to the environment.
Breaking the cultural
barrier is also one of things that have to be taken into priority when we
depart to creating an international business. A proper and thorough research of
the cultural aspects in a chosen country will benefit the organization in
promoting new products that will fit in perfectly in the foreign marketplace
and avoid any kind of bad image from the foreign market through issues such as
cultural insensitivity. To do this, it is important for us to obtain employees
from the chosen country so that we could understand the cultural differences in
more depth and relate to it.
The
language barrier also needs to be breached by increasing the workforce
diversity and employing more translators and bilingual staff. This makes it easier to deal with foreign dealers and
companies, and to delve more into the country’s culture with the exact accurate
context of it. Paying attention to the language and cultural aspects of the
country shows respect towards the country itself and may become an advantage
for the company in the future.
It is also equally
important to find an overseas expert legal counsel to understand the chosen country’s tax codes and compliance issues as they vary greatly from one country and another. A significant time should be spent in market research to analyse
local spending habits in other countries as well as avoiding the countries with
records of confiscating properties. Paying attention to local competition will
also help in deciding whether it is worth the investment or not.
After
choosing the country of choice based on the criteria, the company will proceed
with exporting products and giving franchise and license agreement to the
people who are interested in spreading our products and services to other
countries. We would continuously strive to obtain a great network in order to
maintain our global operations as efficient as possible. An effort would be
placed to create a decentralized organization whereby the decisions will be
done at each organization level rather than focusing all the decision-making to
the main headquarters of the company. This will make the organization grow in a
more natural way and with a comfortable pace.
After
setting up a position in the foreign marketplace, we would learn to adapt to
the environment and making sure that we would able to operate smoothly despite
any circumstances. We would also focus on innovations and social impact
activities to correlate more to the community and to fulfil our social
obligations. Understanding technological and environmental advances are
also one of the steps that we would take in going global to ensure that we are always on top of the game.
vii. Finally,
explain what would be your challenges in making your organisation successful.
The challenges that we
would face in making our organization successful would be the balancing of
workforce and job placing management. Although Erinnern is capable of obtaining
a skillful amount of human resources due to our implementation of skill
classes, the management of them would need a lot of attention as we cannot employ each and every one of them. It is
crucial of us to continue on expanding our business so that we would able to
provide a chance for our trainees to work with us in Erinnern
cafe.
One of the other challenges
that we may face is derived from the organizational structure that Erinnern is
an ambitious organization. This will result in a high initial cost in building
the organization to its full potential and intention. Erinnern will need to
start on a smaller divisional structure before implementing an academic
division in the organization to maximise cost coverage.
Poor reception from the
community is also one of the challenges that may be faced by a cafe-based business
like us. Depending on the community we decide to create our branches in, the
depth of customer acceptance will vary greatly. To solve this, proper research
and survey needs to be done in detail before deciding on a new marketplace for
our business.
In regards of external
environment, the financial stability and economic situation of the government
will affect the course of the organization. With the increase in tax and living
costs, customers may not come to our cafes at all due to losing the leisure to
spend money on tea and cake for self-relaxation. One possible way to get around
this problem is to reinvent our recipes to make them more cheaper with better
deals, both optimizing the amount of resource usage and maintaining customer
likeability.
Another possible challenge
faced in Erinnern is keeping up with the difference in culture, while doing
international business. The organization will have to keep up with the
international culture and in order to have our products be accepted into other
communities. Hence, we need to have more people
who can study in-depth of a country’s
culture in the organization so we can learn the cultural differences and
increasing cultural acceptance among the employees.
Another form of challenge
in Erinnern lies in the speed of information transfer in the organizational
structure. The organizational chart shows that there are divisions between
different parts of the organization so it will take time for the director of
each specialization to inform the other division of the organizational updates.
This is curbed by having two meetings every week and an open communication with
the employees, however the time used during process of planning may overpower the
time used for actions taken.
D. CONCLUSION
In conclusion, our future
organization is a cafe-based organization called Erinnern that owns the vision
of creating a global cafe enterprise and the mission of creating an environment
where absolute guest satisfaction is our highest priority. In order to bring
this vision and mission to a reality, we hold the core purpose of bringing
happiness and tranquillity to each and every customer and holding up a basic of
five core values. These core values include excellence, quality, customer
drive, community and service.
The products that we offer
at our cafe cover a wide range of tea and coffee blends, cakes and
confectionery. The services that we offer include a day-to-day cafe, product
orders, baking and music classes, customized orders and on-site a la carte service.
Our organizational
structure is based off a divisional structrure which is made up of separate,
semi-autonomous units or divisions. This makes it easier for managers to focus
on result as the control span will give them the chance to work effectively and
efficiently.
In terms of organizational culture, we
cultivate an appreciation in art and music, create an open environment for idea
exchanges, a comfortable and relaxing workplace, a respect-based authority,
flextime implementation and giving back to the community. The
effects of the organizational culture to the employees is that we would be able
to obtain employee diversity, a supportive work environment, higher
productivity, work attitude enhancement and the building of humility, character
and reputation in the organization.
In going global, the steps
that we would take include spreading awareness on our brands, addressing
financial stability, breaking the cultural and language barrier, finding an
overseas legal counsel, giving agreements, creating a decentralized
organization and adapting to the environment. The challenges that we may face
include human resources management, a high initial cost, poor community
reception, external environment changes, culture difference and speed of
information transfer.
